Port of Kristiansand

Ferries and Ferry Companies Operating
(Kristiansand, Vest Agder, Norway)

Two ferry companies serve the two routes from Kristiansand. These are DFDS Seaways on the Newcastle-Kristiansand-Göthenburg route and Color Line Ferries on the Kristiansand to Hirsthals route.

Both ferry companies operate conventional ferry ships, although Color Line operates one of the fastest single-hull ferries in the world.

DFDS Seaways

DFDS Seaways links Newcastle to Göthenburg (via Kristiansand) twice weekly on a year-round schedule. Crossing times are 17 hours on the Kristiansand to Newcastle leg and about 6 hours on the Kristiansand to Göthenburg leg.

The Princess of Scandinavia, a fast conventional ferry with a top speed of 26 knots and quality facilities including a swimming pool on the top deck, shops, restaurants and bars, serves this route. The Princess of Scandinavia can carry over 1,500 passengers and 379 cars and has recently been renovated.

Color Line

Color Line runs the Kristiansand to Hirsthals route four times per day in the summer. Fast and slow ferries run this route, with the fast ferry completing the journey in 2 hours, 30 minutes and the slower ferry in 4 hours, 30 minutes.

The Silvia Ana is a fast ferry and has the distinction of being the second largest single hull fast ferry in the world. The Silvia Ana has the capacity to carry over 1,200 passengers and 200 cars and boasts outstanding facilities, including several cafés and snack bars, duty-free shopping and children's areas.

The Christian IV is the slower of the two but can carry over 1,800 passengers and 530 vehicles. There are cabins onboard, several restaurants and bars, tax-free shopping, children's play rooms, and conference/function rooms.
